2nd Internal Workshop and 2nd General Assembly in July
The 2nd Internal Workshop and the 2nd Alfa-Bird General Assembly took place in Toulouse on 6-8 July, 2010.
Around 40 participants have attended three days Workshop. On these three days partners have presented progress on their tasks and the main results.

18th European Biomass Conference & Exhibition
The 18th European Biomass Conference & Exhibition took place in Lyon (France) on 3-7 May.
During this event, Marina Braun-Unkhoff (DLR) gave an overview on the possible use of alternative aviation fuels, and mentioned the work in Alfa-Bird. She concluded that for alternative jet fuels, algae, waste, and ligno-cellulosic biomass are the most important fuels to be researched at the moment.

FP7 next call for proposals - AAT 3rd call Info Day (29 Sep)
The
Info-Day
on the 29th September will provide an overview of the 3rd FP7 AAT call
for proposals planned to be launched on the 30th July 2009.
Within
the 3rd call budget of approx 100 million Euro (less than in 2007 and
2008) a more targeted approach is being taken. It will focus on
certain Level 1 Topics and some Coordination and Support Actions. Full

1st Internal Workshop and 1st General Assembly on 7 & 8 July
Around 40 participants have attended two days Workshop. On these two days task leaders from the SP1 and SP2 have presented progress on their tasks and the main results. The Workshop was followed by 1st Alfa-Bird General Assembly. During the General Assembly project beneficiaries were discussing the possibilities for collaboration with other initiatives and provision of the fuel matricies for future tests Minutes from the General Assembly will be availible on the website in due time.
The Global Aviation Alternative Fuels & Fuel Cells Symposium, 29-30th Sept. 2009, Baltimore, USA (postponed for mid 2010)
The Aerofuel Symposium taking place on 29/30th September 2009 at the Baltimore Convention Center, MD, USA running in conjunction with the Aero & Defense Test Exhibition. AeroFuel will address the status of the most prominent international alternative fuel projects including CAAFI - Commercial Aviation Alternative Fuels Initiative, CALIN & Alfa-Bird -Alternative Fuels And Biofuels for Aircraft Development. N.Jeuland (IFP) will present the Alfa-Bird project at this meeting. Research results will highlight which of these fuels offer the greatest potential as a realistic alternative to current fossil fuels for the aviation industry – Bio-Aviation Fuels, Butanol, Methanol And Ethanol, Hydrogen, Coal-To-Liquids (CTL), Fischer-Tropsch Aviation Fuel, Gas-To-Liquids, Hydrogenation-Derived Renewable Aviation Fuel. New innovative fuel cell technologies will also be featured, with results highlighted from laboratory research and, in some cases, actual flight operations. French Ambassador and French Consul General in Stuttgart visit Steinbeis and EU-VRi
On May 8, Bernard de Montferrand, French Ambassador in Germany, and
Christian Dumon, French General Consul in Stuttgart, visited Steinbeis
and EU-VRi. In his welcome Prof. Löhn, President of Steinbeis
University explained in details the concepts of the transfer of
technology from academics to industry implemented in a successful
manner by Steinbeis. Further information was provided by Mr. Haug,
especially about the network of Steinbeis. Prof. Jovanovic, CEO of
EU-VRi and director of Steinbeis Advanced Risks Technologies, and Mr.
Salvi, Manager of EU-VRi, informed the visitors about the work performed by EU-VRi,
initiated thanks to the strong cooperation between Steinbeis and
INERIS. The model of Steinbeis might be inspiring for the French
institutions and government to develop similar initiatives in France.

A Forms for Accession to Grant Agreement
In order to finish the Grant Agreement process, and sign
the contract with European Comission, all beneficiaries of the project
have to provide A forms for Accession to Grant Agreement. EU-VRi as a coordinator signed the Grant Agreement with EC on the day of Kick-off meeting in Brussels. All beneficiaries have to send 3 copies of A form until July, 22.
